also thomas stridsman and sam tennis have so great books - both early pioneers of systems trading and well grounded.

Here's what really propelled me when I learned. If you're so-inclined, consider getting Tradestation or Ninja Trader. Start building and testing real systems...learn the Easy Language and master the platform(s). IMO, a big part of programmatic trading is about becoming a good programmer. Good luck. I think it's a lot like gold prospecting. You'll probably never find the Holy Grail, but I find system programming to be a lot of fun.

I agree with Ron TS is a great tool also I just purchased MultiCharts yesterday and actually am shocked at how good a platform it has become. The choices of data feeds are certainly impressive and it has not crashed on me which is something that has always driven me mad about TS. Time will tell if it is my new go to platform but looks impressive so far.

I appreciate the TS and Ninja recommendations but I think I still need an action plan before beginning to trade - what works, what doesn't.

in a nutshell what is obscure, old, simple, illogical, inverse, contrary work's everything else is the paper. "bring on the paper" a phrase that floor traders shouted each morning at the beginning of the slaughter of john q public.

Next year Q1 or Q2 I'm publishing a two volume set "The Strategic Analysis of Financial Markets" with World Scientific. Unlike Kaufman, Murphy or any of the TA books, these two discuss the markets as viewed by a professional gambler, and show how to discover "edges." The approach is quantitative and rigorous, showing how an interpretation of the "Fundamental Laws of Gambling" determine the type of "rationality" needed to win at trading. For more information, see my LinkedIn profile

which includes an example of the methods "The Tax Day Trade."

I was going to say winning 😜but semi-autonomous (little human intervention) with simple applied rules that learn from past errors. Or is that not possible?
