Be careful

Hi, I am one of the moderators and just noticed a post in the moderation queue that was flagged by the LinkedIn system. At first, I couldn't see anything wrong with; it looked normal in every way. Then I took it upon myself to figure out why it was flagged. Eventually after a very close look at the link which at first glance (and actually after several), looked fine, I realized the a link in the post contained a very subtle misspelling of a decently long link. Moderators try hard to catch things like that but be careful of links in a post.

Thanks for this. I really appreciate your altering me. Can you help me find which link was incorrect? i want to make sure I do not do it again. I hate to irritate people.

Trevor, I deleted it before it went out but to my memory, it was not you who posted it. It was what looked like a link to YouTube but instead of being www.youtube.com, it was missing one of the letters in youtube or maybe had an extra dot or an underscore somewhere. It was obviously meant to look as though it was a YouTube video.

As if life isn't complicated enough without having to worry about that sort of thing

Scott, this may not be a trivial type of thing. Any link that appears misspelled may not be so, it may be leading you (whoever it is that clicks on it) to some kind of a site that may do all kinds of bad things to your computer like ransomware. I know I may sound to you like a scaredy alarmist, but misspelled links have to remain a no no. Everyone will be happy they do.

Is it possible to kick back the post to the OP or edit it with the correct link or PM the poster and get the correct link and then update it? For a legit poster, this would not be a problem.

@Oscar - I wholeheartedly agree with you; I routinely delete posts with suspicious links. I wanted to remind everyone to exercise caution when clicking any links because it is easy for the moderators to miss something.

@Jon - I don't personally know of a way to do that. The best approach is to repost anything that does not show up in a couple of days.

That is why a good updated antivirus SW is so important.
