We often wonder what is the value of the trading strategy? We might even consider using somebody else's black box strategy design, or use a published one. But at times one might get inherently flawed designs. The following article tackles with that problem. Sometimes, and I think often, it is the strategy itself which was designed with absolutely no chance of winning the game and this from the very start. It was even intentionally designed that way, ultimately turning out to be just crap. Should we not call it for what it is? Make your own opinion. So many ways to measure value. Of course, there are basic monetary gains/losses. Regarding overall goodness, a minimum of tuning parameters, and possibly even none, aids the forward testing process. Also, the lack of fixed/constant parameters is a good sign, as they always hit a black swan tail at some point in time. Make these parameters relative to other quantifiable dynamic characteristics of the instrument being evaluated.
