Søren, with all due respect — how can your advices help a newbie trader to develop a consistently profitable trading system?

Most of the strategies "buy at low and sell at high" are proven corrupt and nasty until you attentively enter based on clearly proven purified timing of strategy accuracy. OR If you are planning for breakthrough system (trend following) then you will have issues like jump price, widening spread or slippage, so these ideas (even successful) dont work in day trading. What is solution? solution is timing in a medium time range (not a day but there may be month or more) where entry should be made based on concrete verifiable evidences of your logic (as it performed successfully in last 15-20 years with statistical record) to counter any behave of market with pre-defined risk/reward & timing

I am going to point out a key element which worked, works and will work forever in stocks, commodities, currencies and indices trading. That is fixed mathematical & statistical logic which covers up, down or consolidation situations of markets.

Make it sure and nobody can ignore that

Market goes up

Market goes down

OR Market consolidates

In entire history of trading, above three conditions are witnessed and in coming forever future these three conditions will remain fix and there is nothing any sort of something beyond that. This concept and base provides strongest foundation to construct most reliable solutions. One can adjust, balance or frame these conditions into any fixed calculational approach. Personally I have developed hundreds even thousands of approaches in last 14 years based of many diversified formulas to grasp these three conditions into pre-known set of probability where accuracy can be achieved up to 75-80% but normally it remains within 65-75%.

yes no problem long term, just invest in some dow 30, use some longer term MA crossover and you have income, people tend to think of income on a short term basis, to gain income short term in markets full of cash /credit rich market players who can move prices in a nano nano, is difficult but not impossbile

in all spheres mindset is crucial, but short term income producing in the stockmarket, requires a reverse mindset from what we are not accustomed to in a capital driven world

start with some funds solely to educate yourself and expect to lose all the funds, mind you, not much $10K - $20K, here is our advantage eveyone can use the NYSE open book, ECBOT etc, become a price maker and taker, you learn how markets actually work, very quickly,

short term price makers with cash or credit make the trend. later when you have a min $100x4 on margin for NYSE, with 10% daliy limit moves on the BB you can put your education to work for income
