Hi All, Do you know of any (relatively serious) report/analysis on the current size of Automated Trading. In terms of $, contracts or whatever. I've recently read that almost 85% of the market is somehow related to algo trading, but I honestly don't believe very much in those numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't confuse algorithmic trading and automated trading. The former is today commonplace with all major and even medium-size institutions: these are simply put various algorithms which help getting a better execution for large volume trades. At the same time it doesn't say anything about the trading decision making process, which can (and in most cases is) still be discretionary or manual. By automated trading normally is assumed the automation of making trading decisions along with placing trades. In the institutional world it's predominantly the realm of arbitrage, HFT, market making and other technology-centric models. So, yes, about 85% of the daily turnover in the most liquid markets indeed is somehow related to algo trading.
