FOREX HFT - is it possible?

Last time I tried run some HFT model based on CME L2 analyze on spot market (I'm using spot data from one bank's pool in NY4 and CME data via publicj internet). I found that in theory system can be profitable (model have around 5 usd profit per 1 lot trade), but on practice failed. Sometime it's possible try bomb provider limit orders, but small execution percent of profitable order's (because LP keep order long time before execute) killing the profit My question. Does anybody trade HFT on FX? In my opinion it's possible if access good liquidity like 1st class banks, hedge funds who quotes they own prices and do not charge comm from the liquidity takers. Ideally it's possible mix orders. Need send several limits orders to liquid providers and wait execution. In theory it's possible access some pool via hotspot and another ecn, but in practice finally order's desk providers will cancel me. Regards, Eugene.

you dont need to do only Arbitrage in order to do HFT.. there are plenty of models to implement. Actually doing HFT on forex is very common

Don't think you can implement it easily except there is a right opportunity. Even you can access to the gold class pricing from the top tier LPs with IOC, if you keep hit on them within a short time, the spreads will be widened. In the meantime when you post the liquidity(risk) to ECN there is no guarantee it will be taken and market might move against you.

Only as a prime bank account holder/member could you perform profitable HFT I believe. If you are dealing through a middle man and not direct as possible most HFT strategies will not endure.

API an FX margin broker to allow HFT or automated trading programs into their MT4 servers so they can front run client orders => and the broker takes profit share - so the broker outsources their B Book program to HFT firms and it is a win : win - what stops them doing his => compliance !! hardly as they dont know it is happening as well it is an open field - under the radar

HFT = technology race. You can not beat the big guns who have super computers, prime access etc ..

So, if your "strategy" is to be the fastest, not the cleverest, you do not have a strategy. A strategy should provide you with an edge, managing to extract return from market moves.

If you try to "frontrun" orders riskfree, you are a parasite and know that regulators are trying to shut down this kind of "trading".

Still, good luck in trying to beat the IT-guys at Goldman, Citadel, ....

kind regards

@Ariel ..I receive many email .. because of this subject .. and .. My advice = don't try on FX HFT / HFT on Forex is just for prime banks or market makers/ for HFT you need a good server and fast connections / Today I tested ..on T1 --- 0,0005 s ..ok . ...no slippage >0,001 .. i cannot be profitable using HFT /NNHFT .. .. this was my last time testing HFT on FX .. i lost many hours . . thanks

The model do not pure arb. As I noticed it have around 5 usd per round trade average profit and possible trade 1000 times per trading session.

May be FOK orders can help me be in profit, but I'm unable test FOK now. May be later.

So, only highest level (prime bank)...

PS. My algo based on FIX. MT4 is retail level.

Technology, it was main reason I left ideas about HFT. I understood I didn't have chance, first (and didn't lose time). I have chosen an another race. I made stat arbs, but on the higher TF. Even a 5M TF can be fine, but costs can kill profits.

Have you thought of getting a Prime of Prime account ? this will give you native market data from multiple ECN's and also give you the ability to be both price maker (some with last look) and taker on multiple ECN's (like Hotspot, Currenex, EBS) with a single NOP netted across those venues. If you use a completely agnostic Prime of Prime provider, you will then be able to access any of the ECN's you want, along with Prices from Tier 1 Banks. FXCM have recently launched a Prime of Prime which is completely agnostic and aims to provide a service comparable with Tier 1 PB's. If you would like more information on the FXCM Prime service please IM me
