Using frameworks in automating manual steps done in a trading application

Hello all, I have been playing with the idea of combining a framework that automates manual steps one makes when performing different operations such as analysis and order execution in a trade application by using a framework like for example sikuli/selenium with programmatic steps such as monitoring real-time trade data and acting when a threshold or a condition is fulfilled by using a programming language (in my case Java). Has anyone any good ideas or starting points on where to start researching if this is a plausible approach ? Frameworks to use, pros/cons and other feedback is appreciated. I like simplicity, or the KISS (keep it simple stupid) approach. Currently I am investigating the Java API for Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation application.

Are you not just referring to a systematic automated trading program?

Hi Robert, like Nigel, I understand this as you asking for a way to build an execution system?

Generally you will backtest a trading strategy, my favourite platform is R due to all the financial analytic libraries, then once you have established that your trade idea makes money you will have to build an execution system.

If you google event driven backtesting and execution you may find what you are looking for.
