Pricing of trade-advisory deal?

Hi, can anyone help with intel on how trade-advisory deals are currently structured? Have IP rights on models + fully automated trade-advisory system. Has been tested at client. No money has changed hands. Assuming a license type deal with quarterly license fee + PnL participation, what are the metrics for structuring such a deal? I suppose actual running costs, AUM, PnL, return profile, and return / risk profile are some of the main drivers. Example numbers / coefficients would be much appreciated. Thank you. Best, Morten

Hi Morten,

I think to cleanest way to do this is by using a license fee only. Having a performance fee looks very interesting, but you have no way of knowing how much AuM is being traded on your advice. Your client may announce $ 1 mio AuM, but copy each trade (directly or via a broker) into other and much larger accounts you are not aware of.

If your model is really good, charge a very decent license fee and leave all the rest to the client until the day you have enough track record to start a business on your own.

How big a license fee ? That depends on your costs, number of clients, ... You will not get rich on the license fees, but it will help you through the first years and build your track record.

godspeed
