Hi there, I need historical data for the Dow Jones Industrial Average exchange (or the NYSE) from 1903 to 1985 including High, Low, Close, and *Volume*. Can anyone point me to a place where I can get this data free of charge? Thanks

Hi Mirio,

For the very old series data try the University of Chicago's Center for Research in Securities Prices, a.k.a. the CRSP database.

Good luck!

Phil

Thank you Phil. I do really appreciate your help.

CRSP seems to be the right place to get the data I need. Although, I am a bit scared about the sentence "For individual investor research, there are many free and subscription-based services that are better suited to your needs." they wrote at http://www.crsp.com/subscription-information-request.

Nevertheless thank you again and, please, let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Cheers, Mirio

Hi Mirio

Check out chartsrus.com

For just 1 data base they charge $10 On their free charts site they have a DJIA price chart 1940 to 1985.

Hi Mirio,

Take a look at :

www.globalfinancialdata.com

They have the longest data base for equities / index ... but it doesn't seem free of charge.

In my opinion, you will not get a LONG time-series completely free.

Mark, Franck, thank you both. Your links look promising. Of course, my wish to get the data free of charge was not realistic. Prices for such old data are however very reasonable. Thanks again, Mirio
