Does any know where to get a daily report on total inflows and outflows of money into each market (NSDQ / NYSE / etc)? I would also like this data by sector if available.

Thanks Ondrej, I was trying to figure out how much I can "trust" my broker/market maker. Still have a problem: do they (Brokers/Exchanges) operate as a cartel?

Dear Antonio, glad I could help.

Just find the right bunch of rascals and you can cook up a spike of a few points here and there and everywhere.

Just look at that recent 1% dip in SP500 due to a hacked twitter account.

They(brokers/exch./Hfunds) are probably less sophisticated than the 'real' cartels, since they lack an important component of the motivation process: premature often gruesome death, rewarded for any screwup.

Lets be honest just money as a motivator can make u sloppy.

@onjej L: Re: last part of your statement - spreading rumors/panic - you will still need to spread enough rumours to spoof enough punters to move same $1bil, or do I misunderstand something? Re: agricultural products - pitchforks?

An what does $34.95 buy you?

Could you point me in the right direction here?

The markets are a fragile beast.

A fat finger of one trader can send index 4%+ in the hole withing seconds.

A SINGLE twitter message from an account with mere 2mil followers inflates bond markets by 1% in 1 minute.

Pitchforks? Why not if they are excessively rich in Nitrogen but probably more like food for plants (trying to avoid using the F key word to cunningly avoid n.s.a. internet parsers).

$34.95 can buy you some cool infomercial gadget that cleans ur ear(only the left one thou) while entertaining your cat OR pays a fat Chinese or Punjabi wizzkid that would for that amount hack that AP twitter account or off equinix datacenter. All this during a lunch break in the local elementary school.

Hope that helped in finding the right direction, Germann.

the HFTs have made the markets prone to feedback loops. It doesn't take much to make the whole market behave like a stampede.
