I'm looking to back-test some strategies and I require equities (and FX) market data depth information. I want the ability to connect into a feed via C++ and possible build my own level 2 book. does anyone know a good FREE source I can retrieve (prefer real) time BID\ASK quotes for equities or FX ? Thank you in advance

If you have an OANDA account and have invested more than $1000 in their fxTrade account, they let you download real time L1 tick data for as recent as up to last month for free for most popular Currency Pairs. You may then withdraw your $1000.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but your own Organization is a primary source of the data you are asking for. What makes you think it would be easier to plug into external sources? Tick data is ultra high volume (by definition) and expensive to store.

Hi Eliad,

How real 'real-time' L-2 are you looking for ... if a few mins batch delay works then there are options (read trial) for L2. What piques my interest is your choice of interface - have you zeroed in on C++ as performance efficient ?

You need to be extremely careful testing forex data. I've tested strategies that come out wildly profitable on one data source and that lose money hand over fist on another source.

It's an OTC market - you better test your strategies on the same feed where you plan to trade.
