Options Data - Historical Data Collection Platform

Hi All, Need some advice. Recently I developed a platform that records changes in an option chain with its corresponding put chain. It works in a way where I would request a stock and get back all underlying calls/puts, which I store in cache prior pushing changes to a database. At this time I am tracking changes in all of the underlying fields (e.g. volume, ask vs bid, greeks: delta, gamma, rho, implied volatility, etc). I can track multiple stocks at the same time through threading, but the limitations would be network throughput & storage for which I dont feel like paying at this time. Questions: 1. For your algo strategies, what fields would be most interesting for you to track? For example, tracking implied volatility on every chain for AMZN will take a ton of space... 2. Does anyone have a mapping between stock symbols and NAIC codes (North American Industry Classification)? 3. On top of the data I have a SAS platform to crunching/forecasting - what analyses would people be interesting in observing. I will be hosting data either through my own site or quandl - let me know if anyone wants to collaborate.

Fedor,

I would be very interested in this, we do already have a platform which retains all of the historical options data. My interest in historical options data is both from a risk data perspective but also being able to produce implied volatility from exchange traded options. Having a good history of options data is critical to being able to produce these for past dates.

Have you considered the likes of S&P Capital IQ as a potential source for the mapping information you are after.

Please feel free to message me directly, as we may also have a distribution platform we could you make your data offering available on.

Regards,

Peter
